The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has officially implemented a new traffic management scheme along the EDSA Southbound corridor, effective immediately. The scheme introduces dedicated lane assignments and revised signal timing at key intersections from Quezon Avenue to Magallanes, targeting a 20% reduction in travel time during the morning and evening rush hours.
Under the new plan, the innermost lane of EDSA Southbound will be designated exclusively for public utility buses during peak hours from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Private vehicles will be required to use the outer two lanes, while motorcycles must stay in the outermost lane. MMDA traffic enforcers will be deployed at all major intersections to ensure compliance.
The MMDA urges motorists to plan their routes accordingly and allow extra travel time during the adjustment period. Real-time traffic updates will be available through the MMDA traffic app and official social media channels. The agency will evaluate the effectiveness of the scheme after a 30-day trial period and make adjustments as necessary based on traffic flow data.
