Flood Warning Issued for Low-Lying Areas in Metro Manila

The MMDA has issued a flood warning for residents and commuters in low-lying areas along the Pasig River and Marikina River basins as PAGASA forecasts continuous moderate to heavy rainfall over Metro Manila for the next 48 hours. Water levels at the Sto. Niño and Rosario monitoring stations in Marikina have reached 15 meters and are expected to continue rising, approaching the critical alarm level of 16 meters.

The MMDA Flood Control Center is on full alert and has activated all pumping stations in the affected areas. Rescue teams and rubber boats have been pre-positioned in barangays historically vulnerable to flooding, including those in Marikina, Pasig, Cainta, and Taguig. Residents in these areas are urged to prepare emergency go-bags, secure important documents, and be ready to evacuate to designated centers if water levels continue to rise.

The MMDA reminds the public to avoid crossing flooded streets and waterways, as floodwaters may conceal open manholes and deep sections. Stranded motorists should contact the MMDA Metrobase at 136 for assistance. Real-time water level monitoring data is available on the MMDA website and the MMDA Flood Monitoring Facebook page. The agency will issue updates every two hours or as conditions warrant until the warning is lifted.
